Technical writers at Sapphire are primarily responsible for drafting and editing security plans for state/local cannabis business applications. The purpose of the security plan is to demonstrate to regulators that the cannabis business will implement sufficient security measures to prevent diversion of cannabis and adhere to regulations. Technical writers work independently to draft security plans by: researching and reading documentation provided by regulatory agencies; pulling relevant content from our content library to fulfill regulatory requirements; ensuring the plan is compliant with regulations; and editing the plan as needed to fulfill client requirements. Technical writers will likely work on other security documentation projects as well.
Technical writers may be also responsible for performing the following job duties:
- Drafting and editing security SOPs (standard operating procedures) and security manuals for cannabis businesses.
- Researching security equipment and/or devices to incorporate them into the security plan.
- Copy-editing and formatting documents.
- Researching, reading, and understanding regulations and government policy for various state/local cannabis markets.
- Writing blog articles pertaining to the cannabis and security industries.
- Drafting and editing other intellectual property as needed.
As a technical writer, you would develop subject matter expertise in physical security and the government cannabis licensing process. Security experience is desirable but not required, as this position primarily demands solid written communication skills, a keen sense for identifying important details, and a capacity to view the big picture. Although not strictly a grant writing position, creating security plans aligns more closely with competitive grant writing than most technical writing.
As a technical writer, you would be able to work remotely from anywhere with internet access. Hours are flexible as projects are primarily deadline-focused so the work can easily accommodate a variety of schedules. Technical writers work collaboratively with other members of the Sapphire team using remote applications such as Dropbox, Slack, Asana, Google Docs, and Zoom. Technical writers may also use programs such as Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat. This is a part-time 1099 contract position.
